QUANN, MICHAEL JOSEPH “MICKEY”

It is with great sadness that the family of Mickey Quann announces his peaceful passing at Belleville General Hospital surrounded by his beloved family. He leaves his devoted wife Mary. Pre-deceased by parents John and Gladys Quann. Devoted and loving father to Mark (Lee), Valerie (Jason) and is cherished by his grandchildren Michael (Staci), Amanda, Sebastian, Rayne and Ever. He is survived by his sister Gladys Aucoin and two sisters-in-law, Teresa Quann (Bill) and Mildred Quann (John Jr.). He was predeceased by his children, Shannon Patrick (Carolyn), Gail Frances, and ten of his siblings . He was adored by dozens of nieces and nephews. Mickey was raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and was always a proud Cape Bretoner even when he left to serve his country. In 1954 he joined the R.C.A.F and he and his new bride travelled the world together. After 26years in the Air Force, he worked for the Hastings County School Board for 14 years at Trenton High School where he won many awards for his diligent work. Mickey was a devoted Catholic who gave of himself in any capacity that was needed. He lived his life in the role of a true volunteer, in the service of others. He served on every base where he was stationed as a community councillor, a sports coach, and a scout leader. He served in a wide variety of capacities in every parish to which he ever belonged ranging from altar boy to 3rd degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Mickey was a life member of Legion Branch 110 and served as Veterans Service Officer under four presidents. He was also a Trustee at the Air Force Museum for 3 years. Finally, Mickey was a dedicated athlete. He was a runner for most of his life, completing a marathon at age 51. He began attending Copperfields Gym when he retired at age 65 and he last attended two days before he was hospitalized. The Quann family would like to extend sincere thanks to the many Doctors and Nurses at Belleville General Hospital who provided such compassionate and dedicated care to Dad during his hospitalization. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held at the RUSHNELL FUNERAL CENTRE, 60 Division St., Trenton (613-392-2111) on Sunday, January 7th from 2:00p.m. - 4:00p.m. Royal Canadian Legion Br. 110 will perform a Legion Service at 2:00p.m. Second visitation will be held from 7:00p.m. - 9:00p.m. Knights of Columbus will hold a Rosary at 6:45p.m. (prior to the visitation). Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Parish on Monday, January 8th, 2018 at 11:00a.m. Fr. Francis Zambon officiating. Cremation to follow.
