Obituary for Gertrude Elizabeth 'Betty' Barr

Gertrude Elizabeth 'Betty' Barr
BARR, G. Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Haker) – October 11th, 1926 – September 30th, 2018 – Peacefully at the Trenton Memorial Hospital. Beloved wife for 68 wonderful years of Gordon Barr. Loving mother of Kathy Denton (Dave), Jim Barr (Leslee), Sue Barr, Barb Rhindress, Teresa Barr and pre-deceased by son David Barr in 1979. Grandmother to Natalie, Mike, Sarah, Matt, Dana, Carly and Alek. Great-grandmother of 8. Daughter of the late Robert and Mary Haker. Sister of Bob Haker (Helen), Pat Haker, Peggy Burris (late Elwood) and late Mary Katherine. Sister-in-law to Shirley Barr (late Don), Lynn Barr (late Marilyn), late Jean and John Sweetland, Sandra (Gary) Knights, and Paul Barr (Wanda). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Betty was very proud to be one of the original OBS nurses of Trenton Memorial Hospital for 37 years where she helped deliver countless babies and cared for them and their mothers. Betty spent much of her time doing crafts, knitting or crocheting for her family and friends, and never met a jigsaw puzzle she couldn't conquer. She was very “creative” during Scrabble games “Mom – that's not a word!!” Like her mother, occasionally enjoyed a sip of Bailey's (Aka medicine or Sue's recipe). Betty and Gord enjoyed travelling to places all over the world and spending time with their family. Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at the Trenton Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care. Visitation will be held at the RUSHNELL FUNERAL CENTRE, 60 Division St., Trenton (613-392-2111) on Thursday, October 4th from 2-4 & 7-9p.m. The CWL will say the Rosary at 6:45p.m. prior to the visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered from St. Peter's Catholic Church, Trenton on Friday, October 5th at 11:00a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. For online condolences, please visit www.rushnellfamilyservices.com
