Fond memories of Betty and my wife Mary (Betty's sister) linger and will do so forever. Betty and Mary were very close. Mary has no doubt welcomed Betty as she has made the transition to the hereafter. They are together now and both are looking down with a loving and protective 'watchful' eye. My condolences Stu. Betty will be missed.

It is with great sadness that I ‘pen’ this tribute to my aunt Betty. Aunt Betty was a brave soul, far braver than most will ever know. She fought her cancer valiantly and attempted to deny death to the very end. She was a real ‘soldier’. My aunt Betty came to Canada from England many years ago; she followed her sister, my mother, Mary (pre-deceased) and decided she would immigrate to Canada and embark upon a new and foreign adventure. My mother met my dad overseas and married in Nottingham, England. Years later when my mom went back to visit home, Betty decided to follow my mother and come to Canada. One can not imagine what a bold step such a move was for a young woman back in the 60’s. But she possessed a brave and adventurous soul.

Aunt Betty lived with us for awhile and her and my mom were very close. Betty was also very close to her niece, Nicole and her nephew (me). She would regale us with her famous ghost stories when we were children and scare the heck out of both of us. And then, 10 minutes later we were back asking aunt Betty to tell us another macabre tale. We all loved these moments. Aunt Betty moved out and eventually joined in union with her life partner Stu. I eventually moved away as a result of joining the RCMP and soon was no longer 'keeping in touch' with my aunt as I should have, due to distance, work, and life in general. I now truly regret this. It is a cliché, but life is way too short. Aunt Betty was a good person, a good aunt and she will be sorely missed.

And Stu you did a great job looking after and loving Betty through her affliction. You were the perfect partner and she is now looking down with a smile knowing just how much you cared and loved her. Hopefully God will comfort you in your grief. In time I hope your pain will diminish while your loving memory of Betty lives forever.
