Sailing a boat calls for quick action, a blending of feeling with the wind and water as well as with the very heart and soul of the boat itself. Sailing teaches alertness and courage, and gives in return a joyousness and peace that but few sports afford.

So glad to have known Barry Bevvan through my cadet career. He was an inspiring leader to so many, and in my youthful eagerness he was a solid rock foundation to rely on. Recently i have been able to catch up with him as an adult now that my daughter is part of the cadet program. I will always carry Barry's teachings with me and cannot say enough good things about him. Barry, you will be missed. I cannot think of another person in my personal circle that has as great of an impact on youth and thus adults in our community and beyond. His teachings will last well beyond this year. The mark of a truly great human being.
Kind thoughts and regards, Sarah Stewart (Cormier).

Mr. Bevvan was my music teacher, Commanding Officer, mentor and friend. His spirit, kindness, compassion, work ethic, and dedication to kids, Music, Cadets, and Education will live on in those who had the honor and privilege to serve with, make music with, and learn from him. Just being around him made you a better person. I will never forget him and the influence he had on me becoming a music teacher. My sincere condolences to family and friends alike. He will be missed greatly but warmly remembered in our thoughts and prayers every day. Thanks for everything Barry........

Mr. Bevvan was my music teacher at King George School in the early seventies. He introduced me to songs like Farewell To Nova Scotia, The Ryans And The Pittmans, I'se The B'y, and other Maritime tunes, which just seems for a seafarer.

Thanks for the music, Mr. B.

It was an honor and a privilege to have been in the sea cadet movement with Barry Bevvan. He saw good in everyone, and made it his mission to encourage everyone to be the best they could be. Barry instilled a love of music in all of us. In an age when women in sea cadets was new to all, Barry was one of the few officers who encouraged young women to take charge and be strong, as we forged new ground in a male dominated organization. Thank goodness for trail blazers like Barry who embraced the Sea Cadet movement with all his being, who made us proud to be sea cadets, who directed the country's best bands, who turned out the best players. Thank goodness for his passion and love for music and marching bands; Falkland Sea Cadets benefited greatly from his unending commitment to excellence while having fun. My very first time conducting a band at the age of 15 on Barry's Quinte parade square is the reason I pursued a music teaching career. A true humble gentleman, mentor, and friend!
