Marga's life was her children

I can't remember when I first met Marga, but, as I was involved with the Estonian kindergarden and school, as well as Estonian Girl Guides and Scouts, I was in a special position to see her as a mother and mentor to her children and as a loving wife to her true love, Andres.

Marga was ever-present with her children. They were her life. They were everything she lived and breathed for. I remember there being other mothers of her era, who were all about their careers and other things, who sometimes looked sideways at how she chose to be. I admired her strenght in conviction, that being a mother was her calling. She gave it her all... and she did it well! She, with Andres, raised Hanno, Raja, Laine, Jaako and Lauri into wonderful individuals. There was no cookie cutter childrearing here. Each child was treated as an individual and got raised in exactly the way they each needed to be. She took the time to be the mother that each of them needed. That is something!

In the past few years, I got to know Marga on other levels, mostly thanks to Facebook. (yes... the evil Facebook does have some redeeming qualities) We chatted. Marga started a group where we could gather and post about Traditional Estonian Cooking and Eating. That was fantastic! Such a large community was created from that and so many people, worldwide, joined and shared (and still do). We miss her presence!

Offshoots from that group, are "Estonians MAIE (Meie armsad isad ja emad) (our dear mothers and fathers), where we post stories and pictures of our beloved parents. "Estonians cooking and eating everything" grew out of arguments over what is traditional Estonian food and what is not. Marga, with her calm, fair, unconfrontational manner, along with another friend, decided.... let's make another group.

Marga sang. Marga danced. Marga loved life!

When I think of strength, I will think of her. She had more strength and will than anyone I have ever known.

I will cherish her memory!

Puhka rahus armas Marga!
