Obituary for David Reginald "Dave" Bartley

David Reginald "Dave" Bartley
BARTLEY, David Reginald (1937 – 2016) Dave passed away peacefully at Belleville General Hospital on Wednesday February 3, 2016, surrounded by his loving family, from complications of several illnesses and prior strokes. Dave will always be loved and remembered by Jan, his wife and best friend of over 60 years; and, his two wonderful “number one” sons, Mark Bartley (Kim) and Colin Bartley (Richard). He was a very proud Granpa of Brooke Bartley (Scott) and Will Bartley. Dave was very fond of his Brother-in-Law, Colin Parsons; Sister-in-Law, Hazel Parsons-Thorne (Roy); and, nieces Jane and Marie and their families of Bristol, England. Fondly remembered as well are his Aunt Joyce Prescott, Cousins Ann Harris and Rita Plaice, and their families of Long Ashton and Bristol, England. He loved all pets and especially his “Grand Dogs,” Shilo and Baxter! Dave was always grateful to Jan’s Aunt Mary Parsons and Cousins Dora, Maida, Grace, Mary, Barney, Buck, and Bruce Parsons, as well as their large extended families, for all of their help to establish his new life in Canada, upon his arrival with Jan and Mark in 1964. Dave enjoyed several careers; General Machinist, Ambulance Driver/Paramedic, Business Owner, and Financial Planner. His passion for helping others continued into retirement as he became Service Officer and assisted with the Poppy Fund for The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 99. He loved boating and fishing on the Bay of Quinte. We are sure there is a fishing rod and a bottle of Glenlivet with his name on it, ready in the next chapter…finally, time to catch “that big one!” As per Dave’s wishes, his body has been donated to Queen’s University Medical School of Research. A service and celebration of life will be held at BELLEVILLE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 68 North Front St., Belleville (613-968-5080) on Saturday February 13, 2016; visitation at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. A reception will immediately follow at The Royal Canadian Legion (Holland Room), 132 Pinnacle Street, Belleville. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Belleville General Hospital Oncology Department, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, or Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
