Snowmobile Duty gone Awry

I was so lucky to have Bob as a friend in Sharbot Lake detachment. I am sorry for your loss and I have always -  and will always, remember Bob fondly.
One of the duties in Sharbot Lake detachment was snowmobile patrol. I was a city kid, female, first and only PW at the detachment. When the Sergeant asked if I knew how to run a snowmobile I replied " of course"   (big lie) - Bob and I headed up north to a big parking lot in Ompah crowded with other snowmobilers.  Of course we had the OPP truck and snowmobiles and we were in uniform. I was just going to repeat everyting Bob did rather than admit my ignorance of anything snowmobile related.  I watched Bob drag the machine off the back of the tilt trailer - so I did too. I saw Bob start it up - so I did too. I saw Bob tilt the machine on it's side and rev it up - I tried - too heavy.  Hmmm.  Thinking it must be like revving up a motorcycle, I held onto the handles and revved it up - WELL -  it took off at full speed, across the crowded parking lot with me still holding on, lying flat out on the bench seat - trying not to scream !!
The crowd in the parking lot were laughing their heads off, as was Bob. I was so embarrassed. But then I saw the humour in the whole scenario and I started laughing too. After that, I admitted to Bob I knew nothing about snowmobiles but was anxious to learn. Bob showed me the ropes, and we did many patrols on those machines over the years.  Best memory of many. Thanks for being my friend Bob. I hope you know how much your friendship and support meant to me, sometimes up against all odds, you were always there for me. Sharbot Lake detachment was the best place I ever worked, best friends, good times/bad times.....and Bob made it all OK. Thank you, I will miss you.
